Mango is native to the Indo-Myanmar region where it has been cultivated for over 4000 years. The spread of Buddhism is believed to have facilitated the distribution of mango into Thailand which now is considered as the origin of many mango cultivars that are commercially produced and marketed as ripe, mature-green and immature-green fruits. Even though more than 100 cultivars have been observed in the country, only some are grown commercially such as Khieo Sawoei, Falan, Nam Dokmai , Ok Rong, Phimsen and Mahachanok. Main variety for export now are Nam Dokmai, Khioe Sawoei and Mahachanok.
